Our 20th Anniversary trip to Oahu

 Hawaii

For our 20th wedding anniversary we decided to go to Hawaii. We didn't know anything about the islands so we talked to friends and work associates for recommendations.  We settled on the island of Oahu for our first destination.

As any business traveler, I had accumulated many Delta frequent flyer and Marriott points during my travels. So that chose the air carrier and the hotel for us. We looked into all the Marriott locations on the island and settled on the Ko Olina Beach Club.

This was a wonderful resort location that was on the west shore of Oahu. The location provided great views of the sunset and quick access to other scenic locations on the island. We visited beaches, volcanoes, pineapple groves, surfing locations on the north shore, and shopping areas in international marketplace that reminded us of Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills!

We were surprised to find that Waikiki beach was not a safe place to be at night so we only visited in the middle of the afternoon! During our trip there was a little political unrest on the island! The islanders have always wanted their independence from the US, and some members of a group calling themselves the Hawaiian Kingdom Government was protesting on the grounds of ʻIolani Palace in Honolulu.

That activity didn't deter our pursuit of leisurely activities on the island. We enjoyed several meals in quaint restaurants on the island and took a sunset cruise on a catamaran. It was truly a vacation and an anniversary to remember!
